I am the flame!

On Saturday, Cornwall counted down to the arrival of the Olympic Torch. The flame was flown into RAF Culdrose on board a British Airways jet at 7.30pm.

Goonhilly Earth Satellite Station was lit up red, white and blue to mark the flame's arrival into the airbase nearby.  That night, it was guarded by police from Scotland Yard in the officers' mess.

First thing on Sunday, 771 Search and Rescue crews flew it by helicopter to Land's End.  The 70 day Torch Relay started at Land's End at 7am on Saturday morning.

I could see the lights on the Satellite Station.  They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME!

Ideas to help your creativity:
  • How are you feeling?
  • Any worries about your important job?
  • What can you see of the outside from inside the torch? People?  Landscape? Torchbearers?
  • What's the weather like?
  • How does the torchbearer feel... can you tell by their expression?
  • What can you hear as you are taken on your first steps through Cornwall?
  • What can you smell?
  • Can you taste anything?
  • How does the air feel in the UK compared to the hot Greek climate?

  4. When I was in the helicopter my heart was going fast like a Concorde. It was scary (Arrgh!) While I was squishing and squiggling in the magnificent torch the breeze smelt like fresh donuts. If I was one of the torchbearers my hands would be burning like the sun because it’s metal and you would have been holding it very tight because you wouldn’t want to drop it and set a fire off. After the journey in Greece to come back to the weather here it was so different the weather in Greece was hot and the weather here is outrageous it is always bad weather like raining or something bad.elliec

    Dear Diary,

I could see the flashing lights on Goonhilly Satellite Station. They were lit up in ruby red, sparkling white and bright blue… the Union flag colours…FOR ME!!!!!
As I landed in the helicopter at Lands’ End I could feel my heart racing like millions of cheetahs running as fast as they could. All of the crowds and traffics were screaming and shouting just to see me and the torchbearer that was holding me all the way to the next one.
When I got into the city centre they were more people than I could ever imagine. Apparently my torchbearer that I had first was called Ben Ainslie, he was carrying me around and once he nearly dropped me I was absolutely horrified.
Bye you will see me next time…And I will have a longer story than now…

Dear diary it’s me the little flame (again),

I could see the flashing lights on the goonhilly satellite station. They
Were lit up in ruby red, sparkling white and bright blue …the union flag colours … FOR MEE!!!!
I felt scared as we landed because I was in a lantern. I thought that I was going to fall and go out but I didn’t. It was all dark in the helicopter. I could hear people ,children and dogs screaming(just to see me and the torchbearer).Apparently my torch bearer is called Louise she has got shiny brown hair. I was so scared i thought that I was going to get blown out with all people screaming. After about 1 hour it started to get very chilly. If I got happy any more I would burst myself. When we finished I was so tired .while we were walking I nearly fell asleep. I started to sing I love to boogie on a Saturday night.

Sorry I can’t talk any more I have to go night night .xxxx

I could see the lights of the satellite station. They were light up in red white and blue the union flag colours for ME. I could see people lining the streets and heard them cheering. I was hoping the torchbearer will not drop me. The look on the torchbearers face was a happy face. I got passed round to other people and I didn’t know where I was or going. People were taking pictures and taking videos. When they had the torch some people went faster than others. After I had looked at the torchbearer I looked around and saw some children with pretend torches and were waving and cheering for me. I can’t wait to see a new place tomorrow. While it was night I was in a police station where a police man from Scotland looked after me. If nobody came then it would not be very good but I was amazed about the amount of people who came.

    Dear diary,
I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME! When I landed in landsend Was so scared on the inside yet happy on the outside.
As I was passed to the first torchbearer I could feel my heart beating really fast. The next torchbearer was a seriously skinny chap, so skinny in fact he looked like a moving stick with clothes on.
3 torchbearers later I was passed on to Lionel Messi, Who is my favourite footballer. It was such a good experience, I even saw a Loyds TSB place wich was really cool. I even saw Jamie oliver during the relay. When I was in the lantern I went to sleep ready for tomorrow.

When I got in to the UK I was happy and I got lit on the torch and then I got past on to another torchbearer. There were 8,000 holes and 8,000 people as well. There were police and old buildings and balconies and stuff. While I was being carried to another touch bearer there was an olive leaf and there was a big building which was the Olympic Stadium. There were torchbearers inside the Olympic Stadium to light the big torch. I felt excited. I am going to feel nervous about tomorrow.

    Dear diary,
I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME!
When I got to the police station I got put on an everlasting candle. The candle felt weird because it didn’t feel anything like the torch. I didn’t mind because at least I was going to get put back on the torch in the morning. The next morning I was really scared but I pulled through and got to the second person and the smell of sweat it was discussing I thought I was going to go out because all of the sweat was dripping on me but luckily I got past on to a another torch bearer and this one did not sweat yet. Oh no she started TO SWEAT HELP!!!!!!! I am really scared about tomorrow what if they sweat.

    Dear diary,
I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME! When I landed in land’s end I felt unbelievably lucky. Inside it smelled like popcorn popping inside the Olympic torch. I thought I was going to blow out in the wind because I kept on flickering. Through the holes that a man looked very happy and tired because he was sweating down his face while I was inside the torch I kept on moving around because the torch kept on passing into over torchbearers hands I kept on wondering wye the torchbearers wouldn’t talk to me. I don’t want to go on the journey tomorrow because I am too warm and tired but I am not going to give up yet because all the fans are counting on me.

When people were looking through the holes, I was really amazed. After they stopped looking at me, they lit me up. If they weren’t looking at me I wouldn’t feel embarrassed. I could hear shouting from the audience. I could see people holding the light.

    Dear diary

I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME!
When I got to the police station I saw a gigantic crowd was roaring it sounded like a mad street it was the best day of my life.
When I looked out of the 8,000 holes I could see a Pearson carrying me it felt like I was running to. Just then I saw my mum watching me it felt a bit weird because 8,000 people was carrying me it was fun.
After I was past to another person I heard her say” I love being the Pearson who carries the torch I feel so special”. Would you feel so special like her if you were carrying it?
While I was travelling I looked out of the 8,000 holes and I saw I was on the beach and I was getting past on to anther Pearson,
When I got to the next stop I got past on to a skinny man but he was still fit he ran so fast I could not see out of the holes all I could see was blurry stuff It looked really weird I was so pleased. After I had a blurry site I got past on again then I had a look at her she had curly hear and she was sort of in the middle she was faster than any one who carried me it was even blurrier than the last one I was so dizzy .
When I tried to look at the view I couldn’t because I was moving around a lit the wind was blowing like mad and I was moving side to side it was so annoying.
While I was moving side to side I was getting dizzier and dizzier each time she was so fast she was like a train but a bit slower. After that I moved on to other people one of the people was so fast it was even faster than a train and I was bumping side to side again. Just then an olive leaf blowed in my face a bit it tickled. Just then I reached to my destination and the man with long legs and a blue top on he lit the light I was really dark it was so nice I saw lots of shining stars just then I heard lots of people shouting down from three and then I got tipped upside down. I was so tired when the torch was lit everyone was singing and shouting it was really fun that day.
When I was lit I could feel freedom I could smell barbeque it smelt really nice I wish I could have some but I car t because I am a flame and I don’t have a mouth. Ha-ha.
When I finished the torch relay I was so sweaty
Sorry I have to go I am really tired because I have had a long day and i have written a long diary I don’t like writing but my mum said I have to wright it to my grammar and tell her what I did.

    Dear Diary
I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white and blue... the Union Flag colours... for ME!
When I got to the police station I saw a massive crowd there were about 10,000 people cheering all together it was the best day of my life.
When I looked out of the 8000 holes in the torch I could see all the people staring at me I was really nervous because I have never had that many people looking at me before. I could also see the person who was holding the torch I was even more scared because I have never been that close to a human.
After I had been passed along to the next person which was a man I heard him say I love being the person who carry’s the torch I feel very special.
While the person was running with me I could hear there fee banging on the ground and how heavily they were breathing. It felt like I was on a roller coaster because I was going from side to side and up and down.
It was very warm there was not one bit of wind. When I was getting carried all over the place I my heart was beating as fast as a jaguar running as fast as it possibly can.
After the person holding me passed me on to a lady she was very skinny and her hair was very curly. When she was running I tried looking out of the holes and I could not see out of them at all because it was very bury. It looked like there was an earthquake.
After the skinny woman had finished running with me I felt like a spin top going round and round and my eyes felt like never ending tornadoes. Then the olive leaf blowed in my face it tickled a bit but not a lot just then I reached my destination and the women who was very skinny lit the light and it was also very dark so it looked very nice. I could also see lots of stars and they were very pretty when they were shining. Then I heard all the 10,000 people shouting like mad down from three and then all of a sudden the person who was holding me tipped me upside down and lit the cauldron. I was so tired but I tried my best not to fall asleep. When I was about to fall asleep the crowd started screaming and singing I wish that this day could be every single day because it was awesome. I could still tell you a load more but I can only tell you a bit more because I am so tired. When the person holding me tipped me up I felt a bit worried because I have never been upside down. I didn’t even like being tipped upside down anyway.

    Dear Diary,

I could see the lights on the Satellite Station. They were lit up in red, white, and blue…the Union Flag colours… for ME! While I was flying in the helicopter, I could hear the roaring sound of the rotor as it went round and round. In my tiny lantern I was feeling very squashed. I felt much more comfortable in my big Olympic torch. As me and my Torchbearer landed, he passed me on to another Torchbearer. I suddenly felt a cold breeze. I was sure I was going to be blown out by the harsh wind, but my Torchbearer held me close. Maybe the next place we go will be a little warmer. I can’t wait for my next adventure
